A Divers Review of Lake Mead - Thanks to Ted & Sue

without comments

We went down to Lake Mead. Dove with Bill & Capt Tim from ScubaViews.

Heck with the strip!

We had a great time. Stayed at the Hacienda, pretty much right at the lake.  Two days, four dives. Visibility was amazing, 100+. We saw some stripers, a humungous channel cat and lots of carp.  The water was a balmy 50 degrees, but head to toe neoprene and some gloves kept us plenty warm enough. We dove Black Canyon, about as near to the dam as they let you get now, and we also dove near the old clarifier plant that is now above water, instead of 90 below. We saw a sunken boat; I found a hat from an Indian bingo joint. It had several years worth of silt in/on it; I shook it out underwater and decided to leave it at the bottom. Saw lots of old fishing line and beer cans. We will be going back there. They run trips to Catalina too.

Not much else new. The buffet at the Hacienda had steak and shrimp night (last night after the diving was done). It was fried shrimp, and I consumed a bit too much grease, had heartburn all night.

Anyway, here are a couple pictures.

January Dive-A-Long was a Great Dive

without comments

Belmont was a blast as usual.  Water temp in the 90s and air temp…let’s just say the run to the locker room was invigorating.  The most people I’ve ever seen at one time made for some interesting visibility and a cold run back to my truck to get my compass.  They are trying to buy it from Camperworld in order to make some improvements including an 80′ deep year-round great place to dive but the owners aren’t budging.  Let’s hope they succeed because it’s already more fun than the crater and that would be a really cool place to do O/W and navigation.  Thanks to everyone who came out and braved the temps and the roads and hope to see all of you again on another trip.    Stay wet!
